So I didn’t write this blog post on a smartphone but I have written blogs from smartphones in the past. The purpose of this article is to answer the question about whether you can run your business from a smartphone. We’ve got many clients that do this. Evidence from other surveys suggest that we aren’t the only ones.

If you are a little sceptical, I want you to think about it. Below I answer the 5 key business activities that you can manage from your smartphone.

Calls, messaging and emails – The three main things you will likely do on your smartphone include calls, SMS messages and emails. Sitting at your desk, calls and emails are likely the two most pressing things you deal with. (They might not be the most important things that you have to deal with but chances are they’re taking up a lot of your time. This is the topic of another blog post.)

Document Creation, editing, sharing and collaboration – I am an evangelical fan of the G Suite range of products. There are other options available to you – from Microsoft and others. (I’ve written other posts about how much I love G Suite.) For G Suite especially there are smartphone apps that you can use to access Documents, spreadsheets and the like on your phone. You can edit them and collaborate with other staff.

Invoicing your Clients – If you use Cloud Accounting Packages like Xero there are smartphone apps available to you. These Apps give you the ability to send invoices to your clients immediately and from your smartphone

It’s the go to research tool – As at August 2016, 60% of searches came from mobile devices. Mobile devices are the go to tool for business executives. (It’s for this reason that Google is starting to favour websites that are responsive – those that you can access easily from mobile devices.)

Marketing your business – Your smartphone is a great marketing tool. You can use your smartphone to market your business – you can access all of your major social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and Twitter. You can record audio and video content.

I do believe that you can run a business almost entirely from a mobile device and this does have its advantages – you can use these devices to work remotely. It can be easier to holiday as you won’t miss out on anything you may have if you were “away from the office.” With a smartphone you’re carrying your wallet in your pocket.
