I drafted this blog post from 30000 feet on a Qantas flight from Melbourne to Perth. Now I am sitting here editing it on my laptop Drafting my post and the use of iPads to run my business is not the point of this post but it’s useful to mention. You will see me mentioning iPads as effective business tools in other articles as part of my 365 day challenge.

This is a quick article to talk about what to post on Facebook – I talk regularly with clients about posting to Facebook  Oftentimes they come to me with comments like “I don’t know what to talk about.” So I’ve come up with a list of 100+ possibilities for Facebook Posts (most are equally relevant for other Social Media Platforms – you just need to make sure you take into account the context of your platform before making a post.)

I am not going to talk about all 100 social media post options available to you. Today I am going to share with you 6 social media post options

Interesting and relevant quotes – Sometimes you want to publish posts that are more for organic engagement than other reasons – for example driving a call to action or getting sales. The more organic engagement you can achieve with a Facebook Post the better. If you get great organic reach then you will find that future posts are more likely to be seen by your fans on Facebook. Great organic reach is one factor that helps ensure that your Facebook page posts will continue to appear in others news feeds.

I like using Canva to create these “Quote” posts as images get great traction on Facebook. There are other tools you can use to freely make these style posts if you don’t like Canva.

Fill in the blank posts – Fill in the blank posts are great for engagement. One of my favourite structures is something along the line of “Fill in the blank. “My business would drastically improve over the next 12 months if ______________””

Other example fill in the blank posts include:

“My workday can be best described as_____________”

“If I could be anywhere in the world right now, I would be _________________”

Polls – You should run polls on your social media platforms. This style of post is doubly beneficial. Client and prospects feel special if you ask for their opinion. They’ll want to give you feedback and they’ll want to engage with your posts. This interaction makes your posts more relevant and this means that they’ll be more likely to see future content. Further, the feedback you receive is valuable market research.

Behind the scenes posts – Behind the scenes posts are a great way to “personalise” your business. If people learn more about you, and why you are passionate about what you do. Behind the scenes content allows you to foster deeper connections with your clients and prospects. It will humanise you and what you do. It will make people understand how much you love your team, and how much they love what they do (providing benefits to your customers).

Statistics or data – Statistics and data are vital and relevant data should be shared. But it’s important  to make sure that any data you share is shared with context. Don’t confuse clients and prospects, use data to advantage. It’s not so much the sharing of the data that is important, it’s your interpretation of the data – your analysis and derivation of meaning – that gives data value as a social media post.

Link to old blog posts – if you have been blogging regularly then you will likely have a great backlog of content to share. Chances are that you have already shared this content in the past. BUT, this doesn’t mean that is the end of the value of your content. You should share this content again, especially if it is still  relevant. Even if it’s not 100% relevant, you can update old blog posts, talk about the changes, and recreate relevance for “today.

We have a list of different content ideas that we will share over coming days and weeks. There’s always something to write or share on social media platforms. We have collated these post types into a short report. If you want to get early access to this list, please sign up for my email newsletter
